Beginners Sign Language course run by a qualified sign language interpreter and tutor (30 years plus of professional working experiences and a deaf family). Weekly sessions via zoom. 

Ideal for you if you are losing your hearing, come into contact with children or adults who are deaf or have a communication disorder or simply wish to enhance and extend your communication skills for interest or fun.

Mandy is an experienced and fully qualified British Sign Language Interpreter (30 years' experience), Teacher (mainstream, deaf and special needs), Makaton Regional Tutor, Trainer and Communication Consultant (deaf, deafblind, autism, and dementia) in the Education, Business and Social Care sectors.

Mandy will teach you sign language, predominantly, in English word order (with speech/lip patterns)

1) to aid the understanding and speed of using sign language (based on feedback from many hearing students) and

2) to reflect the increasingly influence and use of English language due to social media and the advances in medical technology.

All signs taught are from British Sign Language and dialects of BSL from around the UK.

The comprehensive syllabus covers all the common topics for learning a second language, as well as regular updates related to current affairs e.g Signs and phrases related to Covid.

Experience:

I have been involved in teaching and improving access to full communication all my life. I was one of the first pioneering teachers of the deaf who introduced sign language into the classroom (total communication approach). Over the years, I have delivered sign language courses for the NHS, Open University, Schools, Charities, Social Services and private Businesses and other Organisations (including bespoke training related to Professional Development and Wellbeing of their staff).

My passion is to help everyone 'have a voice' and 'communicate' with each other to the best of their ability."

Rate for online lessons : £25 per session 

Rate for 5 hours of lessons : £100

Rate for 10 hours of lessons : £220

Lessons are weekly. Each term is a maximum of eight sessions.
